Yoga is one of the most popular physical activities of recent years. Its varieties are many, and some of the most interesting may be exercises to improve the body’s hormonal balance.

The most important assumptions

The hormonal yoga program created in the 1990s by Brazilian Dinah Rodrigues is a therapeutic form of exercise. The exercises are designed to regulate the levels of female hormones, which is why the classes are mainly aimed at women. The meditative techniques used, breathing exercises and physical exercises, or asanas, within hormonal yoga focus on twisting, bending and flexing the body in such a way as to massage the internal organs, including the glands responsible for the body’s hormone production and management.

The massage is designed to stimulate the ovaries, thyroid, pituitary and adrenal glands. Exercises carried out within the framework of hormonal yoga are also directed to women in the prime of life who are going through menopause. Prepared exercises make it possible to reduce the symptoms of menopause and alleviate the discomforts associated with it.

Effects of hormone yoga

Classes of this type of yoga affect the work of the entire body, not only physical fitness, endurance or respiratory capacity, but also the proper functioning of internal organs.

Massage performed as part of the exercises:

  • helps reduce symptoms of premenstrual tension,
  • relieves discomforts associated with menopause, including insomnia, hot flashes and migraines,
  • helps treat infertility,
  • improves metabolism,
  • strengthens the work of the immune system,
  • increases libido,
  • lowers stress levels,
  • facilitates relaxation of tense muscles,
  • helps improve the work of the nervous system.

Stimulation of key endocrine organs regulates the production of hormones, thereby improving performance not only physically, but also mentally.

Who should benefit from hormone yoga?

The system of exercises created in the hormone yoga program is aimed at women of all ages, but men can also participate in the classes. Elements of meditation and muscle relaxation exercises can also positively affect their mood. However, specialists stress that it is primarily the ladies who can benefit most from the classes. Among the indications that qualify one to start hormone yoga training are:

  • decreased libido,
  • painful menstrual periods,
  • menopause period,
  • problems getting pregnant,
  • premature menopause,
  • hypothyroidism,
  • polycystic ovary syndrome,
  • pregnancy planning,
  • skin or hair problems,
  • insomnia,
  • various types of hormonal disorders.
