Physical activity in the fresh air has a great influence on our fitness and well-being. So take advantage of the beautiful weather and diversify your training plan with a trip to the mountains. Find out what you will need and how best to prepare for trekking.

Types of trekking

Classic trekking, also known as mountain trekking, is the most popular. With the guarantee of beautiful landscapes and great satisfaction after reaching the summit, it attracts more and more people. The scenery in which such treks take place consists of peaks, ridge tops and passes. However, if you have the opportunity to take advantage of other terrain and climate conditions, you can also opt for other forms of trekking, such as desert trekking, tropical trekking, glacier trekking or river trekking. Some also divide this form of activity based on the season. So you can decide whether you prefer summer trekking or winter trekking. Remember also that trekking in itself is not a light activity, but you can choose whether you prefer more or less extreme conditions. It is a very versatile activity – trekking can be practiced by almost everyone, adjusting the length and type of the route to their abilities. This activity also allows you to spend time very close to nature. It is a good idea to relax from the hustle and bustle of the city.

What to take with you?

When preparing for a trekking trip, you should remember about several things. First of all, you will need good trekking shoes. If you want to make sure that your trekking shoes are of the highest quality and will perform well on long hours of hiking, you should definitely choose Salomon shoes. You will also need clothing, preferably typical mountain clothing, which you can buy in a sports store. Make sure it is made of breathable materials. You should also opt for thermal underwear that pulls moisture away from your skin and adapts to the air temperature. A large, packable yet lightweight backpack that can hold all your essentials will also come in handy. Remember also about a hat or a scarf and sunglasses that will protect you from the rays. The sun in the mountains is quite intense, so it’s a good idea to take a sunscreen with you. Take care to prepare the right provisions, which will replenish your energy during the expedition. Energy bars or dark chocolate will work best. Take along a supply of water. Tea or coffee in a thermos can also come in handy. If you are planning a longer trip, take a power bank with you. Your phone is often used as a navigator, flashlight, and to take pictures, so it’s a good idea to take precautions against dead batteries. If you are preparing for a multi-day trip, take with you a tent, a sleeping mat, a sleeping bag and a stove.

Where to trek in Poland?

There are many beautiful places in Poland that you can choose as your destination. If you prefer easier, one-day routes, a good choice would be a part of the 444-kilometer-long Main Sudecki Trail or the Tatra trails such as Rusinowa Polana, Gęsia Szyja or Wielki Kopieniec. If you’re already a bit of a mountain hiker, you can opt for the more difficult multi-day trails, such as the Eagle’s Nest Trail, the Little Beskid Trail, or the Main Beskid Wyspowy Trail. If you feel like an even bigger challenge, you can hike the half-thousand-meter Main Beskid Trail, which, although it avoids the highest peaks, is nevertheless one of the most demanding trails in Poland
